Help Democrats Take Back The House!

House Democrats, with the leadership of Hakeem Jeffries, reject Trump and his unelected Co-President Elon Musk’s false choice of a government shutdown or blank check that harms veterans, obliterates our health care and attacks working families across America. Neither option is acceptable — a message that was echoed today by several hundred of my San Francisco constituents at a Reproductive Freedom for All event earlier. Democrats must fight for a better way!
This is a critical time for the American people and for our country. Trump, Musk and Republicans in Congress are working frantically to decimate Medicaid, gut Social Security and Medicare, defund Veterans Care and completely dismantle our safety net — a destructive and horrific agenda straight from the pages of Project 2025. As I have said before, Republicans want to make America sicker and poorer to make the ultra-rich even richer — and they have set their sights with alarming precision on obliterating Medicaid. Democrats know that Medicaid is a lifeline for 72 million Americans but Republicans are playing with people’s lives and trying to rip Medicaid away from their own constituents. In my home state alone, the 9 Republicans who remain in California’s 52-member delegation are threatening the health care of more than 2.5 million of their constituents who rely on Medicaid.
It’s up to us to make sure that voters in Republican-held districts know who is fighting for them and who is selling them out so they can hold them accountable at the ballot box.
MEDICAID SAVES LIVES – NO CUTS TO MEDICAID
Many people think of Medicaid only as a health care initiative for poor children – and that would be justification enough for us to fight to protect it as our moral responsibility. In addition to providing health care for nearly half of America’s children, Medicaid provides care for people of all ages with complex medical needs and disabilities. Medicaid is also a middle-class benefit for families needing long-term nursing home care or independent living for seniors. Many veterans and their families also depend on Medicaid. Democrats are also fighting for the rural communities that will lose their one hospital and community health centers if Republicans take a hacksaw to Medicaid funding.
TRUMP AND REPUBLICANS’ HIGH TOLERANCE FOR YOUR PAIN
Tragically, Republicans hold complete control of government right now – with majorities in the House and Senate and Trump in the White House – and they are refusing to present a budget without drastic and deadly cuts to initiatives for the American people. On Tuesday, Republicans also betrayed our veterans by advancing cuts that would defund health care for veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxins while serving our country. Our sacred promise is to leave no soldier behind on the battlefield and no veteran behind when they come home. Trump and Republicans are breaking that promise. Republicans keep showing the American people their real priorities — and it’s not you or your families. While Trump turns the White House into a car dealership and schemes with Republicans in Congress to make billionaires richer as everyday costs skyrocket for regular Americans, Democrats are united and fighting alongside you to protect working families and save Medicaid.
YOUR VOICE IS YOUR POWER – USE YOUR POWER!
Republicans want to bring back the bad old days when being a woman was a pre-existing medical condition, when people with disabilities couldn’t live independently, when veterans who got cancer from toxic exposure while serving our country had to beg for treatment, when insurance companies could cut off your life-saving treatment — but we are NOT going back. These are challenging times, but we are not without power. We are powerful, together. It’s clear that Trump and Republicans don’t care about your pain or your struggles — but they should fear your power. Your voice is your power. Keep telling your personal stories.
We can’t let up now. We can’t give up now. Democrats must reject the Republicans’ false choice and fight for a better way. We don't agonize — we organize!
